Applevale Commander
(Kingston X Colony Maid)
1966 brown stallion

Applevale Commander was purchased by Barbara Niemi as a yearling from Applevale Farm in NY, owned by Gordon Voorhis and managed by Fred and Jean (Mellin) Herrick. Commander lived at Barbara's Treble Clef Farm in Calhoun, Georgia the rest of his life, and had a significant influence on the breeding of Morgans in Georgia.

Applevale Commander sired 45 foals. His most notable show horse offspring include the beautiful western pleasure mare, To Sir With Love; western pleasure, dressage and hunter champion Reminiscing; and english pleasure champion Ponderosa's Magnum. Commander was also a good sire of broodmares, most notably the black mares Rose Hill Crystal and Bar C Elvira (a full sibling to Reminiscing). These pictures were taken by Laura Behning in the summer of 1984; Commander was 18.
